Dog Attack On Woman Ends With Shooting By Enfield Police
Police officials called the shooting unfortunate yet "unavoidable" to spare the victim further harm from the attacking dog.

ENFIELD, CT — A woman was attacked by a large dog on Spring Street Tuesday afternoon, sustaining injuries which necessitated officers to shoot and kill the animal to prevent further injury to her, police said.
Around 4:30 p.m., a police officer investigating a call on Spring Street saw a large pit bull attack the woman nearby, biting her foot and causing severe lacerations and tissue damage. The dog’s owners were able to briefly halt the attack by pouring hot water on the dog, but the animal then lunged toward the woman’s neck, bit her and began to pull her back into the front yard of the property from the sidewalk, police said.
The officer then shot the dog, preventing further injury to the victim. The woman was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel, police said.
