"The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many
challenges for the Enfield Safe Harbor Warming Center. We are deeply
grateful for our many volunteers and benefactors who have been steadfast
in supporting our mission of providing a safe, warm place of respite
for our guests, who too often are overlooked during times of crisis.
That said, we have determined that the most prudent course of action is
to continue operating the Center until our original planned closing date
of April 4th, but to do so with the least health risk to our volunteers
and guests. Accordingly, we will operate for the remainder of this
season with existing paid staff only. This will reduce the number of
volunteers who potentially are exposed to the virus, and provide
additional margin of safety considering that our paid staff is trained
and experienced in the protocols necessary to reduce infection risk for
themselves and our guests. They also are most familiar with recognizing
and responding to possible medical situations.
As you can appreciate, this will double our labor costs for the
remainder of this season, and we will need to raise an added $2,500 to
end our season and remain financially solvent. While we realize
that the COVID-19 pandemic has stretched all of our resources to the
breaking point, we are asking all of our prior donors to consider
prayerfully an additional donation of $25 to help us defray these
unanticipated costs. We are humbled by your confidence in our mission,
and please be assured of our continued commitment to serve the homeless
in our community.”
