Enfield Baseball Coach to Help Lead U.S.A. Women's National Team

Tim Mayo, owner of the Dream Bat Company in Somers, will serve as assistant coach of the American team at the World Cup in South Korea.

ENFIELD, CT - The U.S.A. Women's Baseball World Cup team will have a local face among its coaching ranks, with the appointment of Enfield's Tim Mayo as an assistant coach.

The Women's National Team will travel to Gijang City, South Korea for the 2016 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's Baseball World Cup from Sept. 3-11.

"I'm extremely honored and excited to have been chosen to coach and represent the US in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup," Mayo said. I'm looking forward to a great experience in South Korea and making sure the team comes home with gold."

Mayo recently completed his first season as pitching coach at Trinity College; he previously held similar positions at Elms College, Western New England University and Eastern Connecticut State University.

The Enfield resident has owned Dream Bat Company in Somers since 2005, and has served as general manager and a head coach for the Dream Bat Bomber Baseball Club.

Mayo said young female baseball players should know they don't have to switch to softball as they get older.

"There are options for women in the sport. We have two players on the national team who have or currently play college baseball....with the boys," he said.
