Enfield-Based Athletes Succeed in Track and Field Championships

MANCHESTER/NEW BRITAIN, CT — The Class LL track and field championships at Manchester High School saw a very tight contest among the boys, and a bit of an easier victory for the girls' champion.

Staples compiled 81 points to edge Danbury's 78.5 in the boys' competition, with Hamden placing third with 49. On the girls' side, Danbury won the title with 104 points, ahead of Ridgefield's 80 and Manchester's 68.

In the Class S meet at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Derby won the boys team competition with 85.5 points, with Sacred Heart second and a tie for third between Immaculate and Coventry. Bloomfield breezed to the team title for the girls with 163 points, far outdistancing runnerup Immaculate's 62.
