Enfield Couple Makes History Together In Connecticut Veterans Hall Of Fame

The Enfield veterans now stand alone as the only husband and wife to receive the Hall of Fame honor.

ENFIELD, CT — An Enfield U.S. Army veteran whose post-military service has touched nearly every corner of the local veterans community is being formally recognized at the state level.

Pamela A. Townsend, a retired U.S. Army command sergeant major and longtime Enfield volunteer, has been inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.

Townsend was recently honored locally with a legislative citation presented by Carol Hall, recognizing her induction into the Hall of Fame. The honor follows a public announcement earlier this month by John Santanella, who highlighted Townsend’s decades of continued service after her military career.

Townsend retired in 2005 as a command sergeant major in the U.S. Army Active/Guard Reserve, with her final assignment at the Devens Reserve Forces Training Area in Massachusetts. Since then, she has remained deeply involved in veterans advocacy and community service in Enfield.

Her roles include membership in American Legion Post 154, serving as president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 154 since 2016, public relations officer for Enfield’s Veterans Council, and service on the Enfield Patriot Award Committee, where she has held leadership positions. She was named Enfield’s Patriot of the Year in 2023 and received the Chapel of the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award in 2020.

Townsend has also worked closely with the Enfield Town Clerk’s Office to identify and notify local World War II veterans ahead of commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the war’s end, and partnered with Congressman Joe Courtney’s office to help Korean War veterans receive the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador for Peace Medal.

Through Wreaths Across America, Townsend became a location coordinator for Unit 154 in 2018, significantly expanding participation and sponsorship. Her fundraising efforts have placed the Enfield unit among the top five participating groups in Connecticut multiple times.

Townsend’s induction is also notable for a personal milestone: she and her husband, Lucien Lefevre, who was inducted last year, are the only married couple to be honored in the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.

Established in 2005, the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes former members of the U.S. Armed Forces from Connecticut whose lives exemplify continued service and significant post-military contributions. It is administered by the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs and the Connecticut Military Department on behalf of the Office of the Governor.
