Enfield Girl Scout Receives Gold Award
She among 86 recipients of the prestigious award in Connecticut.

ENFIELD, CT - A Girl Scout from Enfield recently took home gold for her community-focused project that helped her earn a Gold Award.
Sara Banach noticed that there weren’t enough opportunities for middle school-aged girls to learn more about coding and prepare for coding programs in high school. Sara created and implemented coding lesson plans at her local middle school. Sara’s program is an introduction to computer science that is simple and easy with an aim to introduce girls to the field and bridge the gender gap in coding and STEM. Sara found that her project helped girls get more excited to code and made them feel confident in the subject. Sara’s curriculum will continue to be used at Women in STEM events across the state and be promoted to schools for future classroom use. Sara will attend Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall to study software engineering. Sara plans to become a software developer.
