Enfield Hall of Fame Bowler Adds Another Title

The longtime standout kegler vanquished six opponents to win the New England Bowlers Association championship Sunday in Rhode Island.

Marcel Lessard, an Enfield High School graduate and one of the top bowlers in Connecticut for more than three decades, added to his Hall of Fame resume by capturing his fourth New England Bowlers Association championship Sunday.

Lessard earned the title with a 217-203 victory over Dave Kipperman in the championship match at the East Providence Lanes in Rhode Island.

En route to the finals, Lessard topped five other opponents, averaging 245.6 per game.

He won $1,650 and a paid entry into the Brunswick Tournament of Champions.

Lessard began bowling at age eight, and by the time of his graduation from Enfield in 1982, had already tossed his first perfect 300 game. In 1988, he established a Central Connecticut Bowling Association (CCBA) record with an 848 series - a mark that stood for 11 years.

Other career highlights include a 21st-place showing in the 1992 Tums Classic, bowling as an amateur against the top PBA professionals, and making the final eight in the High Roller Tournament in Las Vegas, the most prestigious amateur event in the world.

Lessard has been inducted into three Halls of Fame: the CCBA in 2004, and both the Connecticut Men’s Bowling Association and Enfield Athletic Halls of Fame in 2005.

He owned his own bowling center in New Milford from 2006 through 2015, and currently resides in Southington.
