Morning Blaze Leaves Enfield House Unlivable

Firefighters knocked down the blaze within minutes, but heavy heat and smoke damage forced the home to be condemned.

ENFIELD, CT — A fast-moving fire tore through part of a home on Booth Road early Wednesday morning, leaving the structure uninhabitable, fire officials said.

The blaze was reported around 6:30 a.m. at 36 Booth Road, prompting a first-alarm structure fire response from the North Thompsonville Fire Department along with automatic mutual aid crews.

According to fire officials, crews arrived to find a moderate fire condition on the east side of the two-story wood-frame home. The fire had extended from the living room and basement area and burned through to the exterior wall.

Engine 41’s crew was assigned to attack the fire, while Thompsonville Squad 21 conducted search and rescue operations inside the home. The fire was substantially knocked down within minutes, though firefighters reported heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the structure that required extensive overhaul.

A search of the home confirmed no occupants were inside. Officials later determined the homeowner was not home at the time and had been staying with relatives.

The Town of Enfield building official responded to the scene and deemed the home uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the North Thompsonville Fire Marshal’s Office.

Fire Chief Earl Provencher praised the coordinated response, calling it “great work by all crews involved.”
