ENFIELD, CT — A pair of burglars smashed a window of a jewelry store early Wednesday morning, making off with an unspecified amount of valuables and escaping the scene in a light-colored Honda Civic, according to police.

At 4:25 a.m., a police officer on routine patrol saw a person exiting a window on the east side of Hannoush Jewelers at 118 Elm St. The officer activated his emergency lights, and two suspects entered the Honda and exited south on Freshwater Blvd. The officer attempted to stop the car, but the driver jumped the curbing on Freshwater Blvd and proceeded north, turned left onto Elm Street and left again onto I-91 southbound, Lt. Willie Pedemonti said.

Video surveillance obtained from the jewelry store showed one of the suspects using a sledgehammer to break the window. Once entry was made, a second suspect entered the store and proceeded to break display cases and hand assorted jewelry to the suspect standing outside the broken window, Pedemonti said.
