ENFIELD, CT — An alert police dispatcher monitoring street cameras saw an altercation break out between two men on Pearl St. Wednesday night, resulting in the arrest of a man who brandished a handgun after being knocked down by his adversary.

Michael Covaleski, 38, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace. He was released after posting $6,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 15.

Deputy Police Chief Fred Hall said the dispatcher saw a fight break out at Pearl and South streets around 9:15 p.m. According to a video, Covaleski was knocked down, then got back up and took out a gun, later identified as a .45.

As police approached the scene, both combatants walked away. The man who had struck Covaleski did not want to say anything to officers, and a search of the immediate area yielded Covaleski at his nearby home, Hall said.

Police recovered the .45 from Covaleski, and with his cooperation, took an additional six weapons from his home, Hall said.
