Enfield Man Charged With Kidnapping, Home Invasion

Police say the man broke into a home and took his young daughter illegally.

ENFIELD, CT - A local man is facing a slew of charges related to his arrest Monday night on kidnapping, home invasion and other offenses, police said.

John Moran, 27, of 20 Debra St., is charged with risk of injury to a child, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, home invasion, second-degree threatening and interfering with an offidcer.

He was held overnight in lieu of $175,000 bond, and was scheduled to be arragined Tuesday in Enfield Superior court.

Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said officers received a report around 9:45 p.m. that Moran had broken into his ex-girlfriend's home on Thompson Court. When she tried to get the phone to call police, he grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the floor.

When the woman got up and tried to take hold of the 2-year-old child she has with Moran, he again threw her to the floor and took the child to his vehicle. With the child on his lap, he drove to his home in the Southwood Acres section of town, Sferrazza said.

Police arrived at the Debra Street house, but Moran "slammed the door in an officer's face," Sferrazza said. Police heard the child screaming, and out of concern for the child's welfare, broke into the house and arrested Moran, the chief said.
