Enfield Men Arrested in Domestic Incidents With Women

Enfield police responded to a pair of domestic disturbances Wednesday.

ENFIELD, CT - A pair of local men were arrested Wednesday in connection with domestic disturbances involving women.

Around 3:15 a.m., police were called to a home on Green Valley Drive after an argument between a man and woman became physical. According to a police report, the man began to press on the woman's neck, causing her to have difficulty breathing, until she finally broke free and ran out the front door.

Police observed the woman had bruising on her arms, Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said.

Gary O'Neal, 28, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, third-degree strangulation, second-degree unlawful restraint, risk of injury to a child and second-degree threatening.

There were children inside the home at the time of the incident, leading to the risk of injury charge, Sferrazza said.

O'Neal is scheduled to appear in Enfield Superior Court June 20.

In the second incident, police were called around 4:30 p.m. to North River Street, where a woman said her boyfriend had assaulted her. Police determined the woman and man had been drinking, and a verbal argument had escalated into physicality, Sferrazza said.

Richard Doak, Jr., 52, who police say lives in a tent in the woods near the Connecticut River, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening and violation of probation. he was held on $10,000 cash bond, Sferrazza said.

Doak is on probation for failing to register as a sex offender, following a risk of injury conviction in 2006, according to judicial records.
