
Barbara (Gaik) Garten, of Wethersfield formerly of Enfield, entered into eternal rest on Sunday August 12, 2018 at Maple View Health & Rehabilitation, Rocky Hill. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert W. Garten, Sr.
Barbara was born on Dec. 2, 1930 in Middletown to the late John P. and Amelia (Woike) Gaik. Barbara was raised in Cromwell, resided in Enfield most of her life, then moved to Wethersfield 12 years ago to be closer to her family.
Besides caring for her family, Barbara worked as a nurse’s aide in the health care field for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church East Longmeadow, MA.

Barbara was a quiet and kind woman, she always thought of others before herself. She knitted and crocheted countless of hats, mittens and afghans for those in need in the community.
Barbara is survived by her two children Robert W. Garten, Jr. and wife Debra of Wethersfield, and Priscilla J. Garten of Hartford, her two beloved grandsons; William and wife Kimber and their children, Liam and Rory of Wethersfield and Robert C. Garten of Newington. Barbara was predeceased by a brother John P. Gaik, Jr.

At Barbara’s request, a funeral service will be private at the convenience of her family, with interment in Enfield Street Cemetery, Enfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Enfield Food Shelf, 96 Alden Avenue, Enfield, CT 06082, or St. Paul Lutheran Church, 181 Elm Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
