Enfield Obituary: Charles Conlin, 89

Condolences to his family and friends.

Charles E. “Charlie” Conlin, 89, of Enfield, beloved husband of Lois (Schlington) Conlin for 48 years, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

A son of the late David and Ida (Sweet) Conlin, Charlie was born and raised in the Scitico section of Enfield and was a lifetime resident of the Enfield community. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. Charlie was a life-long member of the VFW and was also a member of the John Maciolek Post #154 American Legion. He was the Chief Foreman for F. Ledger Starr Homes for 40 years, before owning and operating Conlin Construction. He also owned Conlin Kennels in Enfield. Charlie was a talented and avid golfer playing with a 4 handicap. He also achieved an amazing 5 holes-in-one during his life. He was also an avid flyer owning and flying his own plane. He loved animals, especially his dogs.

Besides his wife Lois, He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Ruggerio of Kensington; many nieces and nephews, his good friends, Brenda Burns and Jack Burns; and his beloved canine companion Maggie. He was predeceased by his son, Robert C. Conlin (1996), and seven siblings.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, Thursday Feb. 18, 2016. Family and friends will gather at Leete-Stevens at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb., 19, 2016 for a procession to St. Bernard Church for a 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal, with military honors will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT, 06111 and to the Wounded Warriors Project, Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
