
Grace M. Horka, 89, of Somers, widow of the late Joseph Horka Sr. , entered into eternal peace Sunday October 25, 2015 at Evergreen Healthcare in Stafford.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Katie (Pollock) Kish, Grace was born in Manhattan, NY and later lived in the Bronx. She lived in the Somers community since 1969 and was active in the Somers Senior center and was a member of the Somers Congregational Church where she served as a Deaconess. She was formerly employed at Zayre and later Ames Department Stores. Grace was an avid Bingo player and she also enjoyed visiting the casino. She loved her family dearly and was known for being the matriarch as well as organizing most family functions.
She is survived by her children, Kathy (Horka) Young and her husband Richard of Somers, Joseph Horka Jr. and his wife Lynn of Vernon, and Susan (Horka) Quill and her husband David of Hampden, MA; two sisters, Betty Mazzuca of NY and Irene Ryan of FL; six grandchildren, Janet Bloom and her husband Jeremy, Bill Horka, Mark Horka, Beth Wood and her husband Steve, Jessica Quill, and Samantha Quill; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Besides her husband, Grace was predeceased by a granddaughter Rachel Quill.

Calling Hours will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. The committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday October 30, 2015 at the Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel in Bronx, NY. A memorial service will be celebrated at the Somers Congregational Church at a later date.
Grace’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Evergreen for the wonderful care they provided for her.
