
James A. Bennis, 91, of Enfield, beloved husband of Emma A. (Freudenthal) Bennis, died Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Bay State Medical Center, Springfield, MA.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 27, 1924, he lived in Enfield for 58 years. During World War II he proudly enlisted on March 19, 1943 in the United States Navy as a Radio Hand Operator and was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946. Prior to retiring James was employed with Metal Goods Company formerly of Windsor for 38 years.
James was a parishioner of Holy Family Church. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. James was a world traveler and visited all 50 states and traveled to Europe, along with going on several cruises.

He leaves his wife of 68 years, Emma, and four children, James A. Bennis Jr., and his wife, Barbara of Enfield, Thomas E.Bennis and his wife, Kathleen of East Haddam, Susan M. Pucci and her husband, Paul of Lake Kiowa, Texas and Joanne B. Madsen and her husband, Richard of Enfield; a brother, Thomas A. Bennis and his wife, Patricia of Sun City, Florida; seven grandchildren, Deanna and Rachell Bennis, Jamie Drzyzga, Abbie Bennis, Michael and David Pucci and Melissa Madsen; six great grandchildren, Rayna, Sage, Eden, Hannah, Joseph and James and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Meinck.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 15, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the Mass. Burial will be held privately. There are no calling hours.
