Enfield Parents Question Need for Armed Guards in Schools
At a Thursday night public hearing, parents and town officials heard arguments on whether the guards should remain in town schools.

Enfield residents appear to be split on whether to keep armed guards in the town’s public schools.
At a public hearing Thursday night at JFK Middle School, residents and town officials heard a presentation from Mike Dorn of Safe Havens INternational, the company that’s providing school security services for $700,000. The two-year contract expires at the end of the 2014-15 school year.
According to WTIC, some parents questioned whether the money would be better spent on other school services, such as school nurses, while others said school safety should come at almost any cost.

Town Manager Matthew Coppler said that while there haven’t been any incidents requiring action by the armed guards, the officers are a good resource to have in the schools.
A vote on the contract renewal has not been scheduled.
