Enfield Police Bust Mobil Mart Robbery Suspect

A Bristol man is facing robbery and larceny charges after surveillance video helped Enfield Police identify the knife-wielding man who robbed the Mobil Mart on King Street last November.

A suspect with a knife threatened an employee before going behind the counter and grabbing cash from the register, according to Chief Carl Sferrazza. The incident occurred about 1:50 a.m. Nov. 22.

Reviewing surveillance video, investigators were able to identify the suspect and apply for an arrest warrant, Sferrazza said.

On Wednesday, Travis Gornto, 43, of 167 W. Washington St., Bristol, was charged with fifth-degree larceny and second-degree robbery. “He was being held at the Hartford Correctional Center and we got a habeous and had him brought to court in Enfield where he was charged,” Sferrazza said. Bond on the Enfield charges was set at $250,000.

Gornto already was in custody because he is facing first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny charges in connection with the Nov. 23 robbery of the Sunoco Gas Station on West Street in Southington. Gornto was caught a short time later in New Haven after he was involved in a car crash in that city. He is facing motor vehicle charges including engaging police in pursuit in connection with the crash.
