Police, Canines Track Down Fleeing Narcotics Suspect [UPDATED]

A police pursuit started in Massachusetts, and a driver bailed out and fled on foot near the Enfield-Somers prisons.

SOMERS, CT — A police pursuit which originated in East Longmeadow, Mass. carried into Connecticut and ended near the state prison complex, where a driver escaped on foot and initiated tracking by a police canine unit, according to police.

The incident unfolded Friday morning, and the pursuit ended on Loubier Dr. in Somers. A passenger, Eugene Miller, 33, of Springfield, Mass., surrendered, but the driver bailed out and ran into a wooded area, state police said.

State police identified the suspect as Brandon Gusan, 45, also of Springfield. After an extensive search, which included assistance from an Enfield Police Department canine unit, Gusan was located and taken into custody, state police said.

Both men were charged with operating a drug factory, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drugs near a school/daycare, illegal possession of an unstamped drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gusan was also charged with interfering with an officer, police said.

Gusan is being held on $100,000 bond, while Miller's bond was set at $50,000.
