Enfield Political Parties Choose 2017 Election Candidates

Candidates were selected for Town Council, Board of Education and constable at party caucuses Tuesday night.

ENFIELD, CT — A mixed blend of experienced veterans and political newcomers will make up the Democratic and Republican candidate slates for the 2017 municipal election.

Five at-large Town Council members are seeking to retain their seats: Democrats Tom Arnone, Gina Cekala and Liz Davis, and Republicans Peter Falk and Mike Ludwick.

Other candidates for the seven at-large seats are Republicans Joe Muller and current Board of Education member Lori Unghire, and Democrat Tim Norris.

Mayor Scott Kaupin, an at-large Councilor, is stepping down after more than 20 years of service

Council district incumbents Joe Bosco (R-1) and Ed Deni (D-4) are running for re-election; they will be opposed by Steve Niemitz (D-1) and Marie Pyznar (R-4).

Current Republican at-large Councilor Donna Szewczak is running for the District 3 seat, opposed by Democrat Marie Davis. In District 2, Democrat Bob Cressotti will take on Republican Kelly Hemmeler.

Deputy Mayor Bill Lee, who currently represents District 3, is not running for re-election. The District 2 seat was vacated by the passing earlier this week of longtime Councilor William "Red" Edgar.

Incumbent Board of Education Republicans Walter Kruzel, Rich Regnier and Charlotte Riley all seek re-election, as do Democratic incumbents Tina LeBlanc and Tim Neville. Newcomers seeking seats on the nine-member board are Democrats Sarah Hernandez, Scott Ryder and Marcy Taliceo, and Republicans Ashley Depeau and Chris Rutledge.

Current school board chairman Tom Sirard did not seek re-election, nor did longtime member Vinny Grady. Democratic incumbent Stacy Thurston sought to retain her seat, but did not garner enough votes at the caucus to be on the endorsed slate.

Constable candidates are Republicans Robert Chagnon, Kevin Fealy, Joe Jedynak and Tom Kienzler, while Democrats endorsed are Al Harrison, Charles Ladd, Ted Plamondon and Rich Zaczynski.
