Enfield Raiders Compete in Class M Wrestling Championships
Rader and Young lose in quarterfinal matches.
The Enfield Raiders were among 27 teams who competed in the 2011 Class M Wrestling Championships held at Windham High School. Bacon Academy finished as the top team at the tournament with 229 points, and Ledyard and Windham came in second and third, respectively. Enfield fought hard and earned a 25th place finish.
Enfield’s highest seeded wrestler in the tournament was Anthony Perrone, a #7 seed. He had a first round bye, and came up against Corey Geisman of Bacon Academy. Geisman got a quick pin of Perrone at 1:06. Perrone would have his chance to continue wrestling in the consolation bracket. He scored a quick pin of Jonah Swett of Lyman Memorial, but Berlin’s Rich Mullins ended his tournament with a pin at 3:39.
Ryan Rader made it to the quarterfinal round for the Raiders in the 152 pound division. He took a 6-5 decision over S. Khomhoung of Jonathan Law to get him into the quarterfinal round. His bracket put him right in the path of top seeded wrestler Brendan Sullivan. Sullivan took the match with a pin at 1:26. In the consolation bracket, Radar lost a close 3-0 decision to Jordan Zima of Berlin.

Antonio Young also made it to the quarterfinal round for the Raiders in the 285 pound division. His bracket also meant he had to go through the top seed to continue. Bethel’s Chris Valenti, the top seed and eventual champion, took just 1:03 to pin Young. Young lost a close 3-2 decision to Ryan Murtha of Montville to end his tournament.
