Enfield Recreation Releases 2017 Activities List

Enfield Recreation has released the activities list and registration dates for a variety of camps starting in May.

TONS-O-FUN SUMMER CAMP

Camp is a great opportunity to meet new friends, develop respect, build self - esteem, and participate in activities in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere. You don’t have to worry about your child being bored. Campers will always have something to do! Activities include: fields trips, special events, free swim time, sports and group games, theme weeks, arts and crafts, free play and more! Our staff is committed to providing a positive experience for each and every participant. Our counselors have been selected on the basis of their skills and talents, as well as their enthusiasm. Staff to camper ratio is 1 to 10. Camp is offered for children entering grades 1 through 10 in September 2017. Participants will register for one of two age groups, entering grades 1 - 5 or grades 6 - 10.

Camp activities and field trips will vary to allow for more age appropriate activities. Camp is held at JFK Middle School and the program runs from Monday, June 26th through Friday August 11th, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM. Extended care hours are 7:30 – 8:30 AM & 3:30 - 5:30 PM. DOLPHINS SWIM TEAM

The Dolphins Swim Team is hosted by the Enfield Recreation Department for boys and girls ages 5-18 years old. The team swims at the Fermi High School Pool, 124 North Maple Street in Enfield. The coaching staff believes that it is important to teach the strokes correctly to the swimmers in a way that is developmentally appropriate while giving them ample opportunities to practice what they have learned. The focus is on improving strokes and times while having fun and being part of a team. We will not take any additional registrations for new or returning swimmers after Friday, May 26, 2017 at 5:00 PM.

Returning Swimmer Registration: A limited number of spots are available for this program. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you register early to ensure a spot in the program. Participation in previous seasons does not guarantee a spot. Registration begins on Friday, April 7, 2017 for Enfield residents.

New Swimmer Evaluations are held to make sure that swimmers are safe in the water and ready to be on swim team. Evaluations for new swimmers will be held on April 24 & 25, 5:30 - 6:30 PM at the Fermi Pool. Those interested in joining the swim team must attend one of the two try-out nights. Those trying out will need to bring their bathing suits to demonstrate skills to the coaches. A minimum skill & endurance level is required to participate in the program. Parents will also be provided with information about the team, time commitment, required fees and more.

SPRING FIELD HOCKEY CLINIC

Interested in learning more about the game of Field Hockey? This program for youth in grades 5-8 will introduce and teach the basic skills of field hockey including stick and ball handling, passing, receiving, shooting and game rules. The first 45 minutes of the program will focus on skills and drills with the second 45 minutes of the program will be game play. Please Note: Participants must bring shin guards, mouth guard and field hockey stick. A limited supply of sticks is available to borrow if you do not have one. The program is held on Wednesdays, April 26 – May 17, 5:45 PM – 7:15 PM at Enfield High School. Fee is $22.00 Resident/$27.50 Non-Resident. Pre-registration is required. BOSTON RED SOX TRIP

Grab your peanuts and crackerjacks and join the Enfield Recreation Department at the ball game. Travel to Boston on Saturday, July 29, 2017 to be part of America’s favorite pastime as the Red Sox take on the Kansas City Royals. Trip includes round trip motorcoach transportation, game ticket in the bleachers section & free time for shopping or dining. The bus will depart the Enfield Town Hall Parking Lot at 2:00 PM and will arrive in Boston at approximately 4:30 PM. Game time is tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:10 PM. The bus will leave immediately following the game and will be back to Enfield at approximately 12:30 AM. Fee is $79.00 per person. Pre-Registration is required for this trip. PLAYGROUP

Children enjoy free play and exploration with other children while enjoying toy stations throughout the gym. Parents exchange parenting knowledge and experience while supervising their children. Program is held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through May 26, 2017, 9:00-11:00 am at Angelo Lamagna Activity Center Gym. There is no fee to participate. Pre-registration is not necessary but a waiver must completed the first day of attendance. This program is open to Enfield Residents only. There is no playgroup when school is delayed or closed due to weather. For more information, call the Recreation Department at 860-253-6420.

MINI- HAWK (Soccer and T-Ball) Ages 5-7 years old

This multi-sport program gives children ages 5-7 a positive first step into athletics. Soccer and baseball are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities are designed to allow participants to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawk staffs are trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes. Classes are held Wednesdays, May 10 - June 7, 5:50-6:50 PM at Parkman School Gym, 165 Parkman School Gym, Weymouth Road. SIX FLAGS NEW ENGLAND

The Enfield Recreation Department is selling discounted day tickets to Six Flags New England. One day passes cost $38.00 each and are good for any day during the 2017 season. All tickets are non-refundable and will be available while supplies last. Tickets go on sale starting in April. Day Tickets cost $38.00 each and must be purchased by October 20, 2017. PLEASE NOTE THAT CASH IS THE ONLY FORM OF PAYMENT ACCEPTED. No refunds given for lost, stolen, unwanted, or unused tickets. PICNIC PACK RENTALS

The Enfield Recreation Department offers picnic packs which are available for Enfield residents to use for a maximum of three days. Payment and proof of residency is required to secure your reservation. Reservations must be made in person at the Recreation Department at least 24 hours in advance of equipment pick up. Payment is by cash or check only. Fee: $12.00 plus a $20.00 refundable deposit.

Picnic packs are very popular and it is highly suggested that reservations are made as far in advance as possible to help ensure you can get a pack for your desired date. Rental equipment includes: Croquet, Badminton, Wiffleball, Lawn Games, Horseshoes, Frisbee, Sports Balls, Throw Down Bases, Volleyball/Badminton Net. Picnic packs will be available for rent May 5 – October 2. Reservations begin on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 9 AM.
