Enfield School Board to Reconsider Armed Guards Program

At the request of the school superintendent, the board will discuss the issue at its meeting Tuesday.

The Enfield Board of Education is scheduled to revisit the controversial topic of whether to continue having armed guards in town schools at its meeting Tuesday night.

The discussion comes at the request of School Superintendent Jeffrey Schumann who wants the board to consider continuing the program for one year because of the increased work that would be forced upon school staff if the guards are removed as voted by the board last month, according to The Courant.

In May, the board voted to discontinue the program for the coming school year despite an endorsement of the program from the Town Council. Then the council approved the budget with minimal funding for the program.
