Enfield Schools to Begin Remote-Only Learning Immediately
The original plan to switch to all-remote learning from Dec. 21 through Jan. 8 has been moved up, and will begin Monday, officials said.

ENFIELD, CT — A planned switch of school schedules to full remote learning which was to run Dec. 21 through Jan. 8 has been bumped up, and will begin immediately, according to a message from the superintendent of schools sent Sunday night.
In his message, superintendent Chris Drezek cited "several incidents that will not permit us to safely open our buildings." He said "extensive contact tracing requirements" and the "number of staff who are now required to quarantine" made the last-minute decision necessary.
A newly-confirmed coronavirus case from "a member of the Hazardville Memorial School community" was reported Friday.

Drezek's letter is published in full here:
Dear Parents, Staff, and Students of the Enfield Public Schools,
I am writing to inform you that, effective Monday, December 14th through Friday, January 8th, the district will be moving to a completely remote learning program, with a hope to return to our hybrid program on Monday, January 11th. I realize last week I informed you we would begin our remote learning program on December 21st, but this weekend, we experienced several incidents that will not permit us to safely open our buildings for in-person learning. The number of staff who are now required to quarantine, as well as extensive contact tracing requirements, leaves me with no other option but to switch to remote learning until January 11th. I apologize for the short notice, as I hoped it would not come to this, but the strain on the district has reached a point where this decision is necessary. Students will follow their remote learning schedules, and any adjustments will be sent directly from your child’s principal.
Thank you - and stay well,
Christopher J. Drezek
Superintendent of Schools
