Enfield Senior Center Announces March Events

Senior Minor Home Repair:
The Enfield Senior Minor Home Repair program, sponsored by the Enfield Commission on Aging, is happy to announce the restart of the program for 2022. The program focuses on performing minor repairs, at no cost, in Seniors’ homes. They will begin taking requests for appointments on March 14, 2022, by calling 860-253-6396 and will start work on Tuesday, April 5. Appointments are on a first come, first served basis, and will be filled on Tuesdays. Please visit the Enfield Social Services webpage for the tasks they perform as well as those they do not perform. Like last year, volunteers will exercise present CDC and state guidelines for the use of masks and gloves, while indoors, as much as feasible. Residents are free to request the volunteers wear a mask and/or use gloves, and residents are asked to maintain social distancing as much as possible.

Stroke Support Group:

Computer Classes:
Google – Internet Searches, Wednesday, March 9, 1:30-3:30pm. Resident $3.00, Non-resident $4.00. Limit: 8 participants.

TED Talks:
Why the Buildings in the Future will be Shaped by …You. Thursday, March 10, 1:30-2:30pm. Free.
In a sweeping talk, March Kushner, zooms through the past thirty years of architecture to show how the public has become an essential part of the design process. With the help of social media, feedback reaches architects years before a building is even created. The result? Architecture that will do more for us than ever before.

Foot Care Clinic:
Friday, March 11, 8:30am-3:00pm. Please call 860-205-2993 to schedule an appointment. Registered nurses from Pedi-Care will trim nails and check for foot health problems.

Fun Bingo:
Wednesday, March 9 & 23, 11:00am – 12:00pm
Drop-in and play a few games for small cash prizes. Cost is 50 cents per card. Please bring exact change.

Mindfulness Meditation – Follow the Breath:
Tuesdays, March 15 & 29, 12:30-1:15pm, FREE.
Have you often felt overwhelmed by racing thoughts or a sense of losing touch with your body, trouble focusing with single pointed concentration, or increased levels of stress in life, this training is for you. Join Les Carpenter, Fitness Center Instructor, as you practice being present in the moment, both in mind and in body. As you begin letting go, you reduce stress and anxiety, gain insight and greater awareness, and increase your attention to your own well-being as well as that of others. Space is limited. Fall Prevention Screenings:
Easterseals will offer a brief presentation that covers fall risks, how to stay safe in your home and community, and what to do if you feel at risk. The presentation will follow with a screening, which includes four specific tools that are CDC recommended. Once these are completed, participants will know if they are at risk for falls and how to talk to your doctor about the risk. They will also provide a referral form for services at Easterseals. Thursday, March 17 at 2:30pm.

Vaccination Clinics:
The Senior Center is pleased to host the Department of Health mobile vaccine van on Fridays through March 18. Staff from Griffin Health will be on hand to provide first, second and booster shots for adults (12+) and first and second shots for children (5-11). No appointments needed.
