Enfield Students Compete in KidZ Sports Flag Football Festival

As the fall season winds down, registration has opened for KidZ sports winter program.

From Educational Resources for Children.

Students in grades 3-5 enrolled in Educational Resources for Children KidZ Sports this fall celebrated their new skills at a Flag Football Festival on November 8th at JFK Middle School. Over 25 students participated in KidZ Sports this fall from Edgar H. Parkman, Prudence Crandall and Eli Whitney schools.

Heather Linstad, ERfC Program Development Coordinator and KidZ Sports Coach, said each school played 15-minute competitive flag football games, along with a skills contest where students showcased their catching, throwing and passing abilities. Linstad said, “The competitive environment of the three schools was great, but the smiles were even better.”

Parents enjoyed seeing the children’s hard work come together under one special event. Susan Braun, mother of Lee Braun, a 3rd grade student from Eli Whitney said, “Lee enjoys flag football immensely and absolutely loves the idea of memorizing plays and being a ‘football’ player.”

Students have been developing their football skills leading up to the festival since the start of school. “The Flag football Festival was a great culmination of watching the kids from the start of the 1st session to 6th session and how they’ve improved their football skills and knowledge,” added Linstad.

Cheryl Munn, mother of Alex, a 3rd grade student at Crandall School, said, ““Alex has learned to play as part of a team in KidZ Sports and the interaction with others has helped him grow as a person.”

Emily Rivera, a 3rd grade student from Parkman School, likes KidZ Sports because the program is fun and keeps her active, said her mother Suzanne Rivera. “I think it has boosted her confidence pertaining to sports, as well as learning how to play certain sports she didn’t know the rules to,” added Rivera.

Session II of KidZ Sports will begin in January for a 10-week program and incorporate high-energy workouts. KidZ Sports will be offered at Enfield Street, Hazardville, Nathan Hale, Barnard, Parkman, Crandall and Whitney elementary schools. All Session II KidZ Sports participants are invited for a free ice skate with Coach Heather and special hockey guests on Monday, February 16, 2014 (President’s Day) at Enfield Twin Rinks.
