Enfield Town Councilor Announces Candidacy for State Office

Greg Stokes is in his third term on the council, after serving as Board of Education chairman.

ENFIELD, CT - Greg Stokes, Sr., a three-term member of the Enfield Town Council, has announced his intention to challenge for the 58th District seat in the Connecticut General Assembly.

The seat is currently held by Democrat David Alexander.

"After 40 years of failed leadership and crumbling Connecticut's finances, it is time to stop sending the same people to Hartford and expecting a different result," Stokes said in a written statement. "It is interesting to see Governor Malloy finally realize his failed policies of major tax increases and borrowing money to balance a budget, just doesn't work."

Stokes began his political service as vice president of a Board of Education in a Detroit suburb in the early 1990s. After moving to Enfield, he was elected to two terms on the town's school board, including a two-year stint as chairman, before successfully winning a seat on the Town Council in 2011.

He is pastor at Cornerstone Church, and president-elect of the Enfield Rotary Club.
