Enfield Wins Final Crosstown Field Hockey Matchup
A late first-half explosion leads Raiders to victory in final Enfield-Fermi game.
For more than four decades, Enfield’s two high schools have engaged in a spirited crosstown rivalry that always brings out the best in players from both sides.
With Fermi and Enfield combining into one school next year, there are only a few games remaining between the two. On Saturday, the field hockey squads squared off for the final time on the Raiders’ turf.
After more than 23 minutes of scoreless action, Enfield exploded for a three-goal outburst in a 2:52 span late in the first half to emerge with a 3-0 victory.

McKayla Weaver the only goal the Raiders would need with 6:21 remaining in the opening half, assisted by Tori Geaglone. Less than a minute later, on a penalty corner, Taylor Geaglone picked up a feed from Jessie Maier and slammed home a shot for a 2-0 lead.
Macey Clavette tallied the final score with 3:29 left in the half, assisted by Tori Geaglone.

Kelly Mazza recorded the shutout in goal for the Raiders.
Enfield won for the third time in four days on its home field, outscoring opponents by a 16-2 margin in the season’s opening week.
The Raiders will face a tough test in their first road game, traveling to Granby Memorial on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Bears have finished as Class S runnerup the past two seasons.
The youthful Fermi team, which fell to 0-3-1, will look to dent the victory column Monday, playing at Wethersfield.
