Enfield Wins Semifinal Matchup, Will Play For Volleyball Championship Friday

Raiders will play for the Class M state championship Friday in Shelton.

Enfield's Comeback Kids did it again Tuesday.

For the second straight match, the Raiders found themselves one game from elimination from the Class M boys volleyball tournament, trailing Darien 2-1 in the semifinals at Amity High School in Woodbridge.

Much like the quarterfinal contest against Lewis Mills, Enfield caught fire in the fourth game to even the match and set up a race-to-15 in the decisive fifth game.

The Raiders kept the momentum going, prevailing 15-10 in the final game to advance to Friday's championship match against top-seeded and undefeated Oxford. The finals begin at 5 p.m. at Shelton High School.

Game scores Tuesday were 23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-16 and 15-10.

"We know how to bring it together at crunch time," Enfield coach Judy Joslin said. "[Darien] had some big hitters, but our team was able to adjust and started blocking them."

Jason Xiong led the Raiders with five blocks, including denials on consecutive points in the pivotal fourth game. His final block came on match point, sending the Raiders to their third appearance in the finals in the past seven years.

Xiong also quarterbacked the Enfield offense, registering 33 assists. Other top performers were Kyle Maynard (10 kills, 11 digs), Kevin Camidge (nine kills, 16 digs) and Zach Corso (17 digs).
