Enfield's Teacher of the Year Announced

A veteran of a dozen years in the Enfield school system is the town's honoree for the 2020-21 academic year.

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield High School math teacher Michelle Burlingame has been selected as Enfield's Teacher of the Year for 2020-21. She will be presented at the state level in the Connecticut Teacher of the Year process.

Burlingame has been serving the Enfield students and community since 2008. She has been recognized for her commitment to her students and colleagues, and is known for her willingness to help others and an enthusiasm she brings to all facets of her school and community, according to a news release from the Enfield Public Schools.

During the selection process, the Teacher of the Year Committee recognized her leadership during the transition to distance learning. The digital supports she provided students and staff go above and beyond the scope of her position. She has facilitated professional development for staff along with hosting video tutorials to archive. Additionally, her efforts in collaborating with IT on Microsoft Teams helped further facilitate the distance learning transition, according to the release.

In her department, Burlingame provides materials, insights and lessons for a newly offered Math Applications course. Digitally and in person, she creates hands-on and real-world scenarios and projects that interest and foster an appreciation for Math, according to the release.

Her involvement in supporting athletics in the community further extends her level of commitment to Enfield students. She is co-founder and chairperson of Enfield Youth Lacrosse, and was recently named JV girls lacrosse coach at the high school, according to the release.
