Earth Day: Walk-Bike-Take Public Transit to Work Day

March 28, 2010 (ENFIELD) - In an effort to promote Earth Day the Town of Enfield and Healthy Enfield are teaming up to organize a Walk-Bike-Take Public Transit to Work Day.  Residents of the Town of Enfield are encouraged to walk, ride or take public transportation to work on Friday, April 15, 2011.

A $100.00 gift card will be awarded to both the person who walks and bikes the longest distance to work. Everyone can participate, employers are being asked to organize their employees, employees can organize their co-workers, all Town residents are encouraged to walk or ride their bike to work.

The Earth Day event will culminate with a celebration on the Town Green from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Events will include a how to compost demonstration, games for children and Johnson Memorial Hospital will be collecting eyeglasses, eyeglasses will then be donated to Lions Club International.  Enfield High School students will be collecting books to be recycled and CL&P will be on hand to provide energy saving information. There will be a drawing for a compost bin.

As part of the Earth Day celebration, a tree will be planted on the Town Green at 4:30 p.m. In addition, at 5:15 p.m. anyone interested in Zumba can join in for a Zumba Dance-A-Thon. The Zumba Dance-A-Thon is a preview to kick-off a Zumba World Record event that will take place at Family Day in September.
