Falcons Prevail in Final Enfield-Fermi Diamond Matchup
An emotional tribute to a fallen classmate followed the last baseball game between Enfield and Fermi high schools.
ENFIELD, CT - In the final meeting between crosstown rivals on the baseball diamond, host Fermi erupted for five first-inning runs, then held on to defeat Enfield by a 6-3 count Tuesday.
The two schools will be combined at the Enfield Street campus beginning in September.
Brian Cunningham earned the victory on the mound for the Falcons, allowing just five hits and stiking out four in going the distance.

Jeff Peach pitched well in relief for the Raiders, hurling five and a third innings and allowing just four hits and one run.
Christian Pasini was the only Falcon with two hits, and also knocked in a run. Jeff Falk had a double and an RBI for the winners.

Peach had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for Enfield. Jeff Kilty also doubled for the Raiders.
Fermi improved to 11-8, with a home game against RHAM slated to close the regular season Thursday. The Falcons will then compete in the Class L state tournament next week.
Enfield finished its season 4-16.
Fermi won the final six matchups between the two schools; Enfield's last win in the series came in 2009.
After the game, seniors from both teams were given commemorative baseballs. An emotional presentation followed, as family members of the late Jacob Carlander received a Fermi jersey from the Falcon seniors.

- track & field, Thursday, 5:30 p.m. at Fermi (alumni welcome to participate)
