Fermi Defeats Rockville on Senior Day
The Fermi Falcons baseball team jumped on the Rockville Rams and rolled to a 5-1 victory.
The Fermi Falcons baseball team got off to a quick start against the Rockville Rams on Wednesday and ended up winning 5-1 on Senior Day.
Fermi starting pitcher Trevor Breton was perfect through 4 2/3 innings before allowing a walk and a double by Tyler Glidden in the fifth with two outs. Breton ended the game allowing only two hits, one run, one walk and 11 strikeouts.
Kamyno Royal scored the only run for Rockville when he sent a long shot to right field that fell just over the fence for a solo home run in the top of the seventh.

Fermi started the game off hot with a triple by leadoff man Alex Zachary, who then scored on a wild pitch by Rockville starting pitcher Bryan Leonard. Two batters later, Chaz Millett doubled and Jeff Kraucunas eventually knocked him home with a double of his own.
In the third inning, Fermi would capitalize on another Rockville mistake when Millet scored off an infield single from Andrew Roy, who was safe at first after a low throw from Rams third baseman Chris Watts.

Rockville threatened in the top of the fifth inning with runners on second and third and two outs, but on a full count to Rami Jadallah, Breton threw a curveball that just clipped the outside corner for a strikeout.
Fermi added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with back to back RBI singles from Millett and Joe Bowker.
Both head coaches agreed that Breton was the story of the game.
“(Breton) was the best pitcher we have faced all year,” Rockville coach Art Wheelock said. “He could pitch just about 90 mph I think with that fastball, and then he can change it up with a nice curveball.”
“Trevor has been our workhorse all year,” Fermi coach Connell Clark said. “He was coming off of a no-hitter in his last game and was perfect through five innings today.”
Wheelock also said that his team didn’t help themselves by giving up six runs when they were coming into the game knowing they were up against a challenge in Breton.
“We had some lapses and we needed more focus than we had today,” said Wheelock.
Both teams have high hopes of going far into the state tournament, which starts next week.
“This was the type of game we needed to go into the playoffs,” said Clark. “We have a great pitching combo and if we can just execute, we should be alright. I think that we can go pretty far with the team we've got this year.”
“I expect to be seeded somewhere in the middle (for the playoffs),” said Wheelock. “I think we have really achieved a lot this season, and I have absolutely no regrets. I think we exceeded expectations, and we will go as far into the state tournament as our pitching takes us. It’s a game by game tourney.”
Wheelock said that pitching will be the key for the Rams, along with great clutch hitting in the playoffs.
Rockville (12-8) finished its season Wednesday, and will wait for the playoff seeding to be posted on Friday to find out who they play in the first round. Fermi (12-6) will next play a home game against Hartford Public Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
