Fermi Graduate Wins College Conference Player of the Week Honor

The goalkeeper registered her second shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over Clark University.

CHICOPEE, MA — Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Lapponese has been selected as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Field Hockey Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

In the Blazers' lone match of the week, Lapponese was huge in the cage for Elms in a 1-0 win over Clark University. She registered eight saves in her second shutout of the season, and helped deliver the program's first-ever victory over the Cougars in five career meetings.

For the season, Lapponese leads the conference in save percentage (.792), while ranking second in goals against (21) and goals against average (2.33), and fourth in total saves with 80.

She is a 2015 graduate of Fermi High School in Enfield, where she attained All-State honors.

Lapponese and the Blazers will return to the field when Elms hosts Wheelock College in an NECC battle at Leary Field Wednesday at 4 p.m.
