Fermi Prevails In Pitcher's Duel

Falcons close regular season with 4-0 win over crosstown rival Enfield.

Fermi pitcher Lisa Lusardi struck out 15 Enfield batters and helped herself at the plate with two hits and three RBI, leading the Falcons to a 4-0 victory in a rare night game at Higgins Field.

Lusardi allowed just two hits in the complete game win, outdueling the Raiders' Kristen Serafin, who gave up four hits and struck out five.

"Lisa kept us in the game, and Kristen also pitched phenomenal," Fermi coach Sean Sweeney said. "Both pitchers were dominant and kept the hitters off-balance."

Enfield coach Albina Belisle agreed with Sweeney's assessment.

"Kristen has really stepped up her game, and I'm very happy with what she did on the mound," Belisle said. "Even though we lost, I'm very impressed and happy."

Lusardi drove in the only run the Falcons would need with a third-inning double. Fermi added a run in the fourth when Danielle Lavender singled, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error.

Lusardi knocked in the final two runs with a single in the seventh.

Dana Magnuson had the other Fermi hit, while Serafin and Jordan Fritz had hits for the Raiders.

Fermi (10-10) will compete in state tournament action beginning next week. Enfield (1-18) ends its season Thursday at East Windsor.
