Fire Guts Enfield House

The Friday morning blaze caused extensive damage and displaced a family of two adults and five children.

ENFIELD, CT — A fire tore apart the majority of a Brainard Road home Friday morning, leaving a family seeking alternative living arrangements.

The blaze at 331 Brainard Road was reported at 9:38 a.m. and caused "extensive damage pretty much through the house," North Thompsonville Fire Chief Earl Provencher said.

Provencher, who is also the district's fire marshal, said he is still investigating the blaze, but said it originated on the back porch and extended up into the attic of the house, which was built in 1941.

Three teenagers were at home at the time of the fire, and one sustained minor abrasions when he fell running out of the house. The family cat did not survive, Provencher said.

Mutual aid from all five Enfield fire companies helped contain the fire within about 30 minutes. Crews remained on the scene through the early afternoon to watch for hot spots and to conduct an investigation, Provencher said.
