Flashback Friday: Former Enfield Businesses

An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — Our recent discovery of old advertisements in telephone directories and high school yearbooks has prompted a number of requests to feature more of our usual Throwback Thursday column, so we now also offer Flashback Friday, giving readers two opportunities a week to reminisce about an Enfield business of the past.

Today we feature an ad from a mid-1970s telephone directory for Carl Chevrolet, owned and operated by Carl Pagella across from the Enfield town hall at 809 Enfield Street. Pagella became a very recognizable town personality due to appearing in numerous local television commercials for his business.

According to public records available online, Pagella is now 74 and lives in Jupiter, Fla.

Prior to Pagella's ownership, the dealership was known in the 1950s as Louis Chevrolet, owned by Louis Halbwachs, then in the 1960s it became Peters Chevrolet, owned by Peter Scalia.

From the mid-1990s to early 2000s, the building housed Brake King Automotive. It is currently home to Gary Rome Kia.
