Flashback Friday: Former Enfield Businesses

An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — Our recent discovery of old advertisements in telephone directories and high school yearbooks has prompted a number of requests to feature more of our usual Throwback Thursday column, so we now also offer Flashback Friday, giving readers two opportunities a week to reminisce about an Enfield business of the past.

Today we feature a 1976 yearbook ad from the Bull Pen Army Navy store, which was in a small strip plaza at 132 South Road, next to Klug's Bakery. The Bull Pen sold a full line of camping and outdoor supplies, as well as surplus Army and Navy clothing.

The plaza is still in place, though it is outdated and mostly vacant, with just a handful of businesses operating there, including the Great Wall Chinese restaurant. By the way, the former Klug's Bakery is now the Moose Lodge.
