Flashback Friday: Old Enfield Advertisements

A photo and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — Our discovery of old advertisements in telephone directories and high school yearbooks has prompted a number of requests to feature more of our usual Throwback Thursday column, so today we introduce Flashback Friday, giving readers two opportunities a week to reminisce about an Enfield business of the past.

Today we feature an ad from the 1961 telephone directory for Adams-Brainard Inc., a garden center at 654 Enfield Street which, at that time, was the main thoroughfare in the town. Note the old-style telephone number: RI 5-4218.

Not much is known about this business, but records found online indicate the company was registered with the state of Connecticut on Sept. 11, 1959, and officially dissolved on April 10, 1984.
