Former Enfield Mayor Armand Roy Dies
He served on the Enfield Town Council for 12 years, becoming mayor in 1975.

ENFIELD, CT — Former Enfield mayor and longtime town councilman Armand Roy passed away Thursday. He was 87.
Roy began a 12-year stint on the council in the late 1960s, assuming the position of mayor in 1975.
As mayor, he presided over the Enfield Bicentennial celebration in 1976, one of the largest 200th anniversary events in Connecticut.

Also notable under his tenure was the town's urban renewal project, which involved razing hundreds of old buildings in the Thompsonville neighborhood, realigning North Main Street with Elm Street and, eventually, construction of the current town green.
A veteran of the Korean War, Roy and his wife, Jeannette, were charter members of Holy Family Church on Simon Road in 1965.

His funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery on Park Street.
Calling hours are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels on South Road.
