Francis J. Devine, 91; U.S. Navy Veteran of Two Wars, Lifelong Enfield Resident

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22 with the funeral scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23.

Francis J. Devine, of Enfield, beloved husband of the late Marie (Soricelli) Devine, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at Blair Manor, Enfield. He was 91.

The son of the late William H. Devine and Leona (Leander) Devine, he was born on June 4, 1923 in Springfield, MA.

Fran was a lifelong resident of Enfield. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he returned to active duty and served in the Korean War. Fran was a graduate of Bryant College in Smithfield, RI. He subsequently held positions in accounting, communications and computer technologies at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and Combustion Engineering in Windsor.

He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 80; the local Elks Lodge; and, was a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Enfield. Fran’s happiest moments were those that he spent with the many family members who loved him. He was gentle, warm, loving, gracious and positively hilarious. Fran enjoyed reading long novels, traveling to San Francisco and vacationing on Cape Cod with his beloved Marie.

He leaves his son, Francis J. Devine, Jr., of Enfield; his daughter, Katherine M. Devine and her husband, James J. Lynch of Charlotte, VT; his granddaughter, Sarah E. Bronko of Woodstock, VT, of whom he was deeply proud; and, his sister-in-law, Lena (DiSciacca) Devine. All who knew him will miss him tremendously.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William H. Devine Jr.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Enfield. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
