Heavy Rain Likely To Postpone Enfield HS Graduation

School officials are expected to decide Friday morning on whether that day's planned graduation will be moved to Saturday.

ENFIELD, CT — It appears Mother Nature will not cooperate with Enfield High School Friday night, June 14, resulting in the likely postponement of the school's commencement.

Enfield Interim Superintendent of Schools Andrew Longey sent out a notice Thursday indicating a likely move of Friday's planned graduation ceremonies at EHS to Saturday.

Longey, however, stopped short of making the call Thursday. Rather, he said, he will wait for one final update from a meteorologist on Friday morning.

"I have been monitoring the weather with our meteorologist for the past two days to see if there is any possibility to hold graduation Friday night," Longey wrote to the community.

"I need to be honest and say that things are not looking great."

According to Longey, he's been told by weather experts that indications show heavy rain during the time period for the graduations ceremony, which is held outdoors.

"If things do not change by early morning, I will unfortunately be forced to move graduation," he said.

If that does happen, graduation would be on Saturday, June 15, at 4 p.m. at EHS, 1264 Enfield St., with a much, much better weather forecast expected as sunny skies and warm temperatues are predicted.

Longey posted the update on "X" (formerly Twitter) and a postponement announcement would also come via that platform.
