Hurricane Preparedness Information from the Town of Enfield
Make sure to take proper steps this Hurricane season.

With the height of the 2011 Hurricane Season in Connecticut approaching, the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is reminding Connecticut residents and businesses to be prepared. “Hurricanes do impact Connecticut and individuals and businesses need to be prepared,” said Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner Reuben F. Bradford. “Every home and business should have a basic emergency plan that can be used for any emergency”.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30; the principal threat period for Connecticut is from mid-August to mid-October.

Recommended Items to Include in a Basic Emergency Supply Kit:

One gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation

At least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
Flashlight and extra batteries
First aid kit
Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place

Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation

Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities

Can opener for food (if kit contains canned food)

Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger
