It's National Doughnut Day

Several stores are offering deals to commemorate this yearly event which started in 1938.

It's the first Friday of June, which can mean only one thing...it's National Doughnut Day!

The event was created in Chicago in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

New England-based Dunkin' Donuts is celebrating the occasion by offering a free doughnut with any beverage purchase.

Another international chain, Krispy Kreme, is also getting into the spirit of the day - except here in the Nutmeg State. Its website states, "...stop in to any Krispy Kreme US or Canadian location for a FREE doughnut of any variety..." However, looming large are the words, "Excludes Connecticut." We don't know why.
