James M. "Jim" Fahey, 82; Pratt and Whitney Retiree; Enfield Resident

James M. “Jim” Fahey, 82, of Enfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, with his children by his side.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Dec. 25, 1931, son of the late Michael and Mary (Campbell) Fahey.

Jim graduated Rice High School in Manhattan, shortly after which he played baseball for the Cleveland Indians franchise. He later went on to earn his Associate’s Degree at Morse School of Business and was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for over 35 years.

Jim was also very active umpiring high school baseball and softball games. Affectionately known as “Buddy” and “Coach” to some friends and family, he was a smart, hard-working, loving, compassionate and humble man who was unrivaled in his storytelling abilities and knowledge of all things baseball.

A longtime communicant of St. Adalbert Church, Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 42 years, Barbara (Nawracaj) Fahey. Jim and Barbara lived part of the year in Vero Beach, FL where they loved to take in baseball games at the former Dodgertown stadium.

He was also predeceased by his son, Mark Deptula, and two brothers Larry Fahey, of Enfield, and John “Jack” Fahey of Windsor Locks, CT and Vero Beach, FL.

Jim is survived by his son, John Fahey, of Vernon, his daughter Kelly Jacobson and her husband, Paul, of Southport, and his daughter Debra Deptula of Manchester. He is also survived by his brothers Thomas Fahey, of Simsbury, and Martin Fahey of Forest Heights, MD; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Jim’s world revolved around his greatest passion, his five grandchildren, Brendan and Jenna Fahey, and Owen, Ryan and Ella Jacobson all of whom affectionately called him “Da”. He was an active, devoted and loving grandfather throughout their lives, and they were a continuous source of profound pride and happiness to him.

Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. for a procession to St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., where a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 10 a.m., followed by burial in St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery.
