John Coccia Named Personnel Officer for Enfield Schools

The Fermi assistant principal will begin his new duties Monday.

Longtime Fermi High School assistant principal John Coccia is leaving the nest to take on a new role as the school system's chief personnel officer.

Coccia, who served at Fermi since July 2004, will begin his new duties at central office on Monday, July 1.

He played a pivotal role in implementing the Rachel's Challenge initiative in the town's secondary schools, and coordinated events such as the Kindness Carnival and Acts of Kindness Day, according to a release from Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Schumann.

"Although I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Fermi these past nine years and will certainly miss working directly with the students, I am excited for this new challenge in my career," Coccia said Friday. "I have had an interest in working in Human Resources for some time, and felt strongly that the time was right to make this move. I've had many fond memories at Fermi, but I would say that the highlight for me was the work we did this past year with the Rachel's Challenge initiative and, more specifically, our recent Kindness Carnival. I was proud to be part of such a successful event that was responsible for bringing together the entire Enfield community, and I look forward to my continued work with that program."
