Joseph Claude Mathieu, 85; Local Businessman, Enfield Resident Who Served in the U.S. Navy

Joseph Claude Mathieu, 85, of Enfield, CT loving husband of the late Jeannette M. (Nadeau) Mathieu entered into Eternal Rest on Friday, December 12, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital with his children by his side.
Joseph was born December 28, 1928, in St. Francis, Maine the son of the late Alfred and Annie (Thibodeau) Mathieu.

Joe proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked for Airco Welding Supply Co. after many years and was a partner in C&F Repair Company in which he retired in 1995. After retiring, Joe took a job driving school buses with the Rainbow Bus Lines, Inc. in Windsor, CT.
Joe was a longtime, faithful parishioner of Holy Family Church and a Eucharistic Minister. He was a former member of the American Legion John Maciolek Post 154, the Knights of Columbus, Council 2303 in Somers and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1525 in Enfield.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed both fishing and hunting, attending antique car shows, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. Family was the center of his life.
Joseph is survived by five children, Donald Mathieu and his wife, Nancy of Enfield, CT, Carol Jones and her husband Donald of Vernon, CT, Raymond Mathieu of Seneca Falls, NY, Wayne Mathieu of Palmyra, NY, and Nancy Bureau and her husband, Donald of Enfield, CT. Joseph is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Michelle Arcouette and her husband, Jason, Billy Coope, Raymond Jr., Andrew, and Nathan Mathieu, Rachel Bureau, and Shawn Gerber; two great grandsons, Tyler and Brenden Arcouette and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Florian Mathieu, Theresa Jubinville, Maryline Paruske and Doris Duval.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, December 18, 2014, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral procession will gather on Friday, December 19, 2014, at 9 am at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in Hazardville Cemetery.
