Leonard A. Lucia, 88; Retired Teacher, Vice Principal Who Lived in Enfield

Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 19 with a memorial Mass scheduled for Saturday, June 20.

Leonard Angelo Lucia, 88, of Enfield, passed away on Monday June 15th, 2015 at Saint Francis Hospital of Hartford.

Leonard was born on July 4th, 1926, the 150th anniversary of our nation’s birth, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Peter A. Lucia, Sr. and Mamie(Scalise) Lucia.

Mr. Lucia was a US Army veteran of WWII, who loved to golf, bowl, play cards, do woodworking and home projects, garden and travel along with spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Joan (Dobbs) Lucia of Enfield; his two sons, David and his wife Chungnam of Austin, TX, Jon and his wife Marjorie of Moline, IL; his daughter, Susan and her husband Robert Miltenberger III of West Granby, CT; his four grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; his sister Ann McAvoy of Warren, PA and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Leonard was predeceased by his five brothers (Daniel, Albert, Peter Jr., George and Richard), and two sisters (Josephine and Alvida).

Leonard was a beloved teacher and vice principal in the Vernon school district for 28 years who had been described as a disciplinarian yet always with a “velvet glove”. Additionally, Leonard was a long-time and active member of the Rockville Elks Club, as well as a Past Exalted Ruler.

Leonard’s family would like to thank the staff of Saint Francis for all the quality care he received.

A wake will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 5-8pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St, Rockville and a Memorial Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Church ,426 Hazard Ave., Enfield . Military Honors will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard’s memory may be made to the Brain Trauma Foundation of New York City or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital of Memphis, TN.
