LETTER: 2 Democratic Councilors Respond to Alleged Misstatements
Opinions expressed are those of the letter writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of Patch Media. Opposing viewpoints are welcomed.

We took note of a comment in a recent article in the Journal Inquirer, made by the Republican
Town Chairperson. She said that the Enfield Republican Party “remains united”and are
“working hard for the people” of Enfield. She then goes on to say, “in contrast, the Democrats
have spent the last two weeks arguing amongst themselves over what is best for the party
rather than what is best for the town.” Let us say, with all due respect to the Republican
Chairperson, that she is flat out wrong!
The two of us have been involved with the Democratic Party for a total of more than 50 years
and we are proud to call ourselves Enfield Democrats . The Democrats are a unique group of
individuals who have never marched in lock step with leadership. We have had countless
primaries and arguments among ourselves, and like any large family, we are independent
thinkers who sometimes disagree with each other. It’s happened before, it’s happening now,
and most certainly will happen again. Sometimes families air their dirty laundry in public. Our
Democratic family is doing just that. We have nothing to hide. And, as in the past, we will once
again come together and reconcile our differences.

The Chairperson’s assertion that the Democrats are not working for the best interests of our
town is very wrong and just downright politically motivated. Our ( Democratic) work both on
and off the Town Council would indicate otherwise. We are coaches, teachers, PTO members,
parents, and grandparents to our community’s children. We have fought for our seniors by
making sure that adult day care remained opened. We have insisted that the town use better
marketing to keep adult day care viable. We had asked for extra funding for the Commission on
Aging. We supported the Republican majority on the Council in getting more police to keep
our citizens safe. We have asked the fire chiefs to submit to us the locations of hazardous
chemicals known as PFAS. We have worked with the Board of Education to give our kids the
best education possible. And of course more needs to be done to insure the best educational
opportunities for our children.
To say that we as Democrats are not working for the town is absurd. We truly hope that the
Republican Chairperson gives this some more thought and retracts her statement.
