LETTER: Do You Know Liz Davis?

Opinions expressed are those of the letter writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of Patch Media. Opposing viewpoints are welcomed.

They say that we only encounter a few true friends during our lifetime. I find this statement to be true. By definition a friend is, "a person who you like and enjoy being with and/or a person who helps or supports someone or something (such as a cause or charity)." For me, I believe all of the above to be true of my friendship with Liz Davis.

If you know Liz, you know that she is the definition of a friend and supporter. If you know Liz, you know that she is there for anyone at the drop of a hat to provide support for anyone or any cause that is important to herself or others. If you know Liz, you know that she is selfless, caring, devoted, passionate, loyal, dedicated, strong, respectful, accepting and genuine.

If you know Liz, you know that she is the Democratic chair of Enfield and works tirelessly to maintain the Democratic values and integrity in town. If you know Liz, you know that she is vocal and passionate about the things that impact the quality of life for those around her. If you know Liz, you know that she is married and enjoys spending time with her family. But if you don’t know Liz, let me tell you a little bit about her.

Liz is first and foremost a mother of an amazing young lady who is just as selfless and genuine as she is. If you know Liz, you know that her role as a parent takes a front seat to all of her many duties. I will follow that up by saying not only is she a hero to her daughter, but she is a true American hero, having served 24 years in the Army fighting on the front lines for our country.

If you don’t know Liz, it's important for you to know all the things about her that she won't tell you because she is humble and lacks the need that so many other politicians have, for the public to be made aware of the time she donates to her community. One would never know how devoted she is because I feel as though she just does it and doesn’t turn it into a public appearance for votes or acceptance.

I want to tell you about all of the things she does for this community that you are most likely unaware of:

  • Do you know that she provides support and personal transportation for other veterans that need a helping hand, an ear to talk to or a ride to a doctor's appointment?
  • Do you know that she goes above and beyond as a mentor to struggling students? When I say goes above and beyond, I don’t mean that lightly. If needed, she is available to them at all times, in or out of the school setting.
  • Do you know that she and her daughter never miss a Sunday morning at Walmart to pick up a truckload of food donations for the Enfield Food Shelf?
  • Do you know that she is in every Enfield school during the school year? She is unmatched at donating her time, working on the PTO, organizing events and supporting teachers on an almost daily basis. Not just once or twice, here and there, and not just her daughter's school; she is in a school almost every day.
  • Do you know that Liz has met with families and supported students with their educational and special education needs but supporting them regarding services and appropriate accommodations?
  • Do you know that Liz is a cancer survivor that supports and participates in many fundraising events to support the fight for a cure?
  • Do you know that she is a local spokesperson for the LGBTQ community and is available to support and speak to our local community of adolescents and adults?
  • Do you know that Liz is a lifelong Enfield resident that is dedicated to the quality of our community? She participates in many town events in an effort to promote and strengthen it, such as the Enfield Beautification Day, flagging Enfield cemeteries for Memorial Day with her daughter's Girl Scout troop, and did I mention she is also a troop leader?

I could go on and turn this into a four-page article about all that she does and all that she is, but instead I would just encourage you to get to know her if you don’t already. You won't find an easier going chair of a political party who is open, honest and accepting of all who want the same outcomes as the rest of her Democratic team. All politics aside, you should get to know Liz because she is a great person! I know she values the quality of her relationships far beyond a political position. If you don’t know her, reach out to her and verify my claims for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
